Being Taken for Granted

Taking someone for granted means not cherishing the things someone does for you…it means expecting everything from someone and not giving the same in return…it means never being satisfied with what one has and what one is offered and constantly wanting ’something else’…it means not appreciating a person for who they are…

I find this especially true with regards to the Indian woman. The family as a rule takes you for granted. As a justification they say “Am I supposed to say thank you everyday?” To expect thanks or appreciation means the woman has to go on the defensive and feel guilty for expecting something for a task, which anyway was her “duty”.

It really is a nasty feeling when you think your “close, loved ones” are taking you for granted. It’s as if they are not even thinking about you, you are just there to see that everything is in order at home and everyone is looked after so that they can go ahead and enjoy life, as they want. Of course it is thoughtless, without malice, but it still hurts.

Afterthoughts:

Chin up, stop dwelling on this and see how I can change the situation. I cannot change others but I can change my actions and reactions. Life is not always perfect but it is what we make of it. Let me make my own happiness.
